GEOINT 2013*: Robert Cardillo, Deputy DNI for Intelligence Integration, Calls for More Innovation

Published on April 18, 2014

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence’s (ODNI) customer base is calling for more innovation and needs the right tools to help advance decision-making.  This means breaking down the monopolistic mindset that is common within the Intelligence Community (IC) when it comes to procuring traditional solutions.

These are some of the insights that Robert Cardillo, Deputy DNI for Intelligence Integration, shared at a press briefing at GEOINT 2013* when asked about Thermopylae Sciences & Technology and Google by a member of the media.  He also discussed how it is important for the IC to break down any “cultural inhibitors” when it comes to embracing more nimble solutions.

Mr. Cardillo even went onto say that the IC’s customers have a mindset of “we need these innovations or you are irrelevant to me.”  Clearly, we are at a point where demand and capabilities are now fully aligned and it’s time for these solutions to come to the forefront for advancing mission goals.

He also provided a keynote address yesterday where we discussed the true value of intelligence integration.  To hear Mr. Cardillo’s full presentation, please click here. The video was provided as a courtesy from the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF).
